IS IT POSSIBLE TO VISIT NORTHERN IRELAND WITH AN IRELAND VISA?

Even though both of them are called Ireland, you cannot use a visa issued by the Republic of Ireland to fly to Northern Ireland. You will need a visa issued by the United Kingdom instead.

There are two territories on the island of Ireland: the Republic of Ireland, which accounts for the majority of the island, and Northern Ireland, which is part of the UK.

Nationals from certain countries included in the British-Irish Visa Scheme can, however, enter the territory of the UK with an Irish visa and vice-versa.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS DUE TO COVID 19

On 22 December, the Irish Government extended, until at least 31 December, its ban on flights and passenger ferry journeys from Great Britain. Regardless of nationality, this applies to individuals in Great Britain. For freight, including accompanied freight, but not passengers, ferry crossings from Great Britain to Ireland will continue, while ferry journeys from Ireland to Great Britain are available to both passengers and freight.

Residents of Ireland in Great Britain who need to return to Ireland can contact the Irish Government for assistance by calling +353 1 6131700. More details are available on the Irish government's website.

SELF-ISOLATING MOVEMENTS ON ARRIVAL

Those coming from Great Britain to Ireland, including those who have arrived since 8 December, should be self-isolated for 14 days from the date of arrival in Ireland (stay in your room). This extends to all travelers from the United Kingdom, including Irish residents and people with no symptoms. The Irish authorities will make contact, using the details contained in the Passenger Locator form, to assist in the organization of the COVID-19 test. More details are available on the Irish government's website. From this requirement, arrivals from Northern Ireland are excluded.

In general, people coming from countries other than Great Britain are required to limit their movements when they arrive in Ireland from another country for 14 days. This extends to all travelers, including people with no symptoms and Irish residents. Restricting movement on arrival means staying at home and avoiding as much as possible interaction with other individuals and social circumstances.

Ireland is adopting the EU'traffic lights' approach to travel relevant to EU/EEA and UK countries. A combined indicator map will be issued weekly by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, in line with the EU' traffic lights' approach (ECDC). Upon arrival in Ireland, passengers from "green" regions are not allowed to limit their movements for 14 days. Arrivals to Ireland from "red", "orange" or "grey" regions are asked to limit their movement for 14 days.

Until further notice, passengers arriving in Ireland from Denmark are expected to isolate themselves, including those traveling for essential purposes, for a period of 14 days after their arrival.
