The government of Cambodia doesn’t provide permanent residency to the person carrying an ordinary visa. but on the other hand, the visa can be extended for any amount of time. There are some other provisions through which the citizens of other countries can get permanent citizenship, but on the other hand, the tourist can get a business visa or ordinary visa. They can extend their business visa for any amount of days.
Visa policy of Cambodia
The visa policy of the Cambodia is same as that of other countries in ASIA. They allow the Business visa/ ordinary visa (E). This visa can get an extension for 3 months, 6 months, or 12 months. Using these visas they can stay up to 1 month in the country.
Permanent citizenship for Cambodia.
The person who wishes to take Cambodian citizenship can apply for permanent citizenship. They can apply for permanent citizenship at the Ministry of the interior, this will take around 2 to 3 months to process.

Eligible citizens who can apply for permanent citizenship:
Citizenship by investment
There is a policy in which a person can get Cambodian citizenship employing investment. This is a program that is not very well known to the general public, that the government of Cambodia offers citizenship by investment. In this process, it will take around 3 to 4 months for the process.
The person who wants to get citizenship using the investment. The person has to invest a sum of $ 312,500 which equals 1.25 billion riels. Under this business idea, the person can get citizenship. The person who is investing must be fluent in the language.
The person who is investing must be having these before investing:-
- Letter from Cambodian Development Council
Only the person who has received the letter of confirmation from the Cambodia Development Council can invest in the country.
- Letter from the royal government of Cambodia
In case the person has not received any letter from the Cambodian Development Council. If they have received a letter from the royal government of Cambodia. They can invest in the country for permanent residence.
The person has been living there for at least 7 years
People who are living in the country for at least 7 years on a visa, can get permanent residency in the country. they have to be fluent in the Khmer like in reading, writing, and speaking.
As the visa of Cambodia can be renewed as many times as the person want. So the most popular way is that the person can go for the business visa or tourist visa, as they can be renewed for 3 months, 6 months, or 12 months.
Citizenship through marriage
This is also one of the ways of getting a permanent visa in Cambodia. But few conditions are attached with it, that the citizenship through marriage can only take place after the 3 years of cohabitation, after that the marriage of the person has to be registered. The children born in Cambodia will take the nationality of their father. This is regardless that their father is Cambodian or not.
Foreigners, who come to Cambodia and get married. They are a step closer to getting Cambodian citizenship if they got their marriage registered. If a foreign national is married to Khmer citizenship, they can apply for Cambodian citizenship after 3 years.
Cambodian citizenship by birth
If a child is born, in Cambodia with at least one Khmer parent that can get Cambodian Citizenship. there are some of the children born in the kingdom that have foreign parents and are living in Cambodia legally, they can also acquire Cambodian citizenship.
There is one other way of getting citizenship through a visa.
This is called the K- class visa, or the Khmer visa. This is a visa that is given to foreigners who have their family relations in Cambodia. This is free for a lifetime visa gives the person multiple entries in the country. this is the visa for the children of the Cambodian emigrants.
