AUSTRALIAN VISA TYPES
There are five major Australian Visa types. They are as follows:
- ETA- ETA Australia is the type of Australian visa that is valid for holders of passports in the United States, Canada, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, and Brunei. It is valid for a consecutive 90-day stay in Australia, for tourism, transit, or business purposes, within 12 months. People from European countries or Taiwan are not eligible to apply for this visa, they will have to apply for Australia's eVisitor instead.
- eVisitor- For tourism, transit, or business purposes, the eVisitor, like ETA, is valid for a 90-day consecutive stay in Australia over a 12-month term. The eVisitor is valid only for passport holders of the Member States of the European Union, as well as residents of Andorra, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway, Switzerland, San Marino, and Vatican City.
- Tourist Visa- The Australian Tourist Visa was recently replaced by the current Visitor Visa for tourism. If you wish to obtain an online visa for tourist purposes, you can apply for an ETA or an eVisitor, if you are from a qualified country.
- Visitors Visa- Visitor visas can be obtained from the Australian Embassy or Consulate by qualifying citizens for tourism or business purposes. A stay of 3, 6 or 12 months may be granted to anyone visiting Australia as a tourist, to go on a cruise, or to see family and friends, while a longer period of validity may be extended to eligible parents of Australian citizens. The stay validity with the Australian Visitors visa for business is 3 months maximum.
- Transit Visa- The transit visa enables qualifying passport holders on the way to another destination to transit via Australia. The transit visa allows travelers to stay for up to 72 hours in Australia before their connecting flight, provided that they have a verified reservation and a permit to fly to their final destination. However, it is not necessary to apply for a separate transit visa for those who obtain any form of Australian visa online (either ETA or eVisitor for Australia). The Australia Online Visa allows multiple entries over 12 months of validity, including for transit.
